“Dear Father Christmas…” Since 1822, his birth year, this captivating father figure has been evoked in every family with children as a modern god embodying the essence of Christmas. From Child Jesus to Santa Claus, the religious significance of Father Christmas has ceased to exist and he is by now the all-present icon of the Christmas shopping season. In spite of that, his life is so short, lasts but a few days, because his identity is destined to be revealed as soon as we reach the age of reason. Is it right that adults do no tell their kids the truth? Is it so sure that the use of imagery is still the best way to help our children understand the father’s role?
