Attachment and affects in the analytic dialogue

The constructs of infant research and of attachment theory relating to attachment models and to the role played in their formation by parental responsiveness towards infant emotions are examined in the light of the extent to which they can be used at a psychoanalytic level. From this perspective significant features of analytic work are the regulation and mentalization of affects and their sharing, which allow the patient to transform his relational models. Thus the responsiveness and emotional availability studied in infant-parent interaction become important ingredients of the analytic dialogue, the basis of and background to the transference and countertransference. The analysis of a therapy with a young woman with a history of abuse shows the importance of these features in helping her achieve a mutually reliable and «non-abusive» Self/Other relational model. Key words: Affect mentalization, affect regulation, analytic dialogue, attachment models, emotional availability, responsiveness.


Attaccamento e affetti nel dialogo analitico. Lo scritto considera i costrutti della ricerca evolutiva e della teoria dell’attaccamento relativi ai modelli di attaccamento e al ruolo svolto nella loro formazione dalla responsività dei genitori verso le emozioni infantili in funzione della loro utilizzabilità a livello psicoanalitico. In quest’ottica, elementi significativi del lavoro analitico si delineano la regolazione e la mentalizzazione degli affetti insieme alla loro condivisione che permettono al paziente di trasformare, nella relazione terapeutica, i propri modelli relazionali. La responsività e la disponibilità emotiva diventano in questo modo ingredienti importanti del dialogo analitico, base e insieme sfondo dei movimenti transferali e controtransferali. L’analisi di un trattamento con una giovane donna con una storia di maltrattamento evidenzia la significatività di tali aspetti nell’aiutarla ad approdare a un modello di relazione Sé/altro reciprocamente affidabile e «non maltrattante». Parole chiave: Dialogo analitico, disponibilità emotiva, mentalizzazione affettiva, modelli di attaccamento, regolazione affettiva, responsività.

Attachement et affects dans le dialogue analytique. L’écrit examine les concepts de la recherche évolutive et de la théorie de l’attachement relatifs aux modèles d’attachement et au rôle joué dans leur formation par la résponsivité des parents aux émotions infantiles, en fonction de leur utilisabilité au niveau psychanalytique. Dans ce contexte, des éléments importants du travail d’analyse sont la régulation et la mentalisation des affects, ainsi que leur partage, qui permettent au patient de transformer, dans la relation thérapeutique, ses propres modèles relationnels. La résponsivité et la disponibilité émotionnelle deviennent donc des éléments importants du dialogue analytique, base et fond des mouvements de transfert et contre-transfert. L’analyse d’un traitement d’une jeune femme avec une histoire de mauvais traitements souligne l’importance de ces aspects pour l’aider à parvenir à un modèle de relation Soi / autre mutuellement fiable et «non maltraitante». Mots clés: Dialogue analytique, disponibilité émotionnelle, mentalisation affective, modèles d’attachement, régulation affective, résponsivité.

Apego y afectos en el diálogo analítico. Este trabajo considera las construcciones de la investigación de la edad evolutiva y de la teoría del apego en función de su posible uso a nivel psicoanalítico. A tal propósito focaliza la atención en los modelos de apego y en el rol que la responsividad de los padres hacia las emociones infantiles tiene en la formación de dichos modelos. A partir de este punto di vista, en el trabajo analítico se delinenan como elementos significativos la regulación, la mentalización de los afectos y el compartirlos. Esto permite al paciente transformar, a través de la relación terapéutica, sus propios modelos relacionales. La respuesta y la disponibilidad emotiva se convierten de esta manera en ingredientes importantes del diálogo analítico, base y al mismo tiempo fondo de los movimientos transferenciales y contratransferenciales. El análisis de una mujer joven con una historia de maltrato subraya lo significativo de dichos aspectos al ayudar a llegar a un modelo de relación Sí/otro mutuamente confiable y que «no maltrate». Palabras clave: Diálogo analítico, disponibilidad emotiva, mentalización afectiva, modelos de apego, regulación afectiva, responsividad.

Bindung und Affekte im analytischen Dialog. Diese Arbeit untersucht in Hinblick auf ihre psychoanalytische Brauchbarkeit Konzepte der Entwicklungsforschung und der Bindungstheorie in Bezug auf die Bindungsmodelle und der Rolle, die die elterliche Responsivität für die Entwicklung der kindlichen Emotionalität innehat. Unter diesem Gesichtspunkt konturieren sich als bedeutende Bausteine der psychoanalytischen Arbeit die Regulati-on und die Mentalisierung von Affekten einhergehend mit der Erfahrung, sie mitteilen zu können, die dem Patienten ermöglichen, innerhalb der therapeutischen Beziehung eigene Beziehungsmodelle zu transformieren. Die Responsivität und die emotionale Verfügbarkeit werden somit zu wichtigen Zutaten des analytischen Dialogs, Grundlage und zugleich Hintergrund der Übertragungs – und Gegenübertragungsbewegungen. Die Analyse einer jungen Frau mit Misshandlungserfahrung unterstreicht die Bedeutung dieser Aspekte bei dem Aufbau eines neuen, nicht von Misshandlung und Unzuverlässigkeit charakterisierten Beziehungsmodells zwischen dem Selbst und dem Anderen. Schlüsselwörter: Affektmentalisierung, Affektregulation, analytischer Dialog, Bindungsmodelle, emotionale Verfügbarkeit, Responsivität.
